Avatar Scanner

Updated for: MystiTool version 1.3

Description

Displays up to 16 nearest avatars within sensor range. Names will be listed above the MystiTool HUD buttons.

Above the list of names, you will see something similar to this:

6 AVs within 96m [1]

The [1] number is the number of whole seconds used to process sensor data. Ideally, this number should be under 2, and [0] is best. If it is 2 or higher, you are in a laggy place. :)

Letters after avatar names

In addition to displaying avatar names, MystiTool will also list what they are doing after their name.

  • S = Sitting
  • F = Flying
  • H = In the air, but not flying. Falling?
  • M = In MouseLook
  • W = Walking
  • T = Typing
  • A = Away
  • B = Busy
  • .AR = Always Run

Example: If you see “Mystical Cookie (12m) ST.AR“, this means Sitting, Typing, and using “Always Run” mode.

Menu Commands

To access this feature and its options, click Privacy on page 1 of the HUD menus.

  • Scan 96m – Enable the AV scanner at 96 meters. (max normal range)
  • Scan 30m – Enable the AV scanner at 30 meters.
  • Scan Off – Disables the AV scanner.
  • Scan Sort – Forces sorting of the name list. Use only when necessary!
  • Scan Wrap – Toggles use of a bug which displays very distant avatars.
  • Scan Keys – Display a list of all nearby avatars and their UUID. (Useful for scripters)

Chat Commands

/1 scan [range]
Set scanning range to [range] and begin scanning for nearby AVs.

/1 scan 0
/1 scan off

Disable the avatar scanner.

/1 scan sort
Toggle sorting list by distance. This may increase scan times!
Normally not needed, but useful in crowded or laggy places.
May also be necessary when using “Scan Wrap” mode in crowded areas.

/1 scan wrap
Toggle possible avatar detection beyond 96 meters. This option relies on an SL bug and may cease to function one day!

/1 scan color <color>
Set the AV Scanner hovertext color.

Technical Notes

Hovertext limitations

Due to hovertext limitations (max 255 characters), the text may be cut off before all 16 AV names are shown. Yes, I could split the hovertext between two prims as a workaround, but only one prim would continue to function on no-script land. The same is true for multi-color hovertext – it would require two prims and additional scripts. :(

Out of order name list

In laggy sims, the AV Scanner hovertext may show avatar names out of order. This is due to sensor data being returned to my script out of order, due to an SL bug. The “Scan Sort” option may be used to fix this.

Sorting limitations

Sorting the list by distance requires using “lists”, which are like cheap mini-databases in memory. Doing this for each sensor scan is costly, will slow down your scan times, and possibly cause sim lag. But, it is available as an option if you absolutely need it.

Scan Wrap and distant avatars

The “official” range for sensors is 96 meters. However, avatars will occasionally be detected at much greater distances. Use of this bug may be enabled or disabled with “Scan Wrap”.
